Israel Confirms Deaths of More Senior Iranian Figures
Jerusalem, 2 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Israel has confirmed the death of two senior Iranian intelligence officials during an opening airstrike of the war, the Israel Defense Forces said on Monday.
The IDF said Deputy Minister of Intelligence for ‘Israel Affairs’ Sayed Yahya Hamidi was a central architect of Tehran’s overseas terror activity and domestic repression. Also confirmed killed was alal Pour Hossein, head of the Ministry of Intelligence’s espionage division.
Hamidi’s position as deputy minister of intelligence for “Israel affairs,” was a role that the IDF said placed him in the heart of Iranian efforts to target Jews, Western interests and opponents of the Islamic Republic both inside Iran and abroad. Over several years, Hamidi allegedly directed terrorist plots and intelligence operations while also playing a role in suppressing dissent within Iran.
The strike also killed Jalal Pour Hossein, head of the Ministry of Intelligence’s espionage division, along with additional senior officials. The IDF said that documents found by soldiers in Hamas revealed that personnel from this ministry repeatedly sought to establish a joint operations room linking Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps personnel in Lebanon.
“The Iranian Ministry of Intelligence also serves as the central instrument of the Iranian terror regime for monitoring the activities of Iranian citizens. Members of the ministry provided intelligence that enabled the violent suppression of protests over the years,” the IDF said.
Most notable among the senior figures killed on Saturday was Ayatollah Ali Khameini, who was the Iran’s supreme leader since 1989.
Other high level security personnel whose deaths were confirmed were Ali Shamkhani, who served as secretary of Iran’s Defense Council and was a central figure in the country’s security decision-making process; Mohammad Fakhpour, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps since last year, commanding central military forces, overseeing strategic firepower directed at Israel and coordinating support for Iran-backed terrorist organizations across the Middle East.
Also killed was Salah Asadi, head of the Intelligence Department of Iran’s Emergency Command and a senior intelligence officer at the Supreme Headquarters of the Iranian forces; Mohammad Shirazi, who headed the Khamenini’s military bureau; Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh; and Hossein Jabel Amaleyan and Reza Matfernia, current and former heads of the SPND organization which was responsible for advancing nuclear, biological and chemical weapons projects.
