Israel to accept Syrian Orphans as Refugees
Jerusalem, 26 January, 2017 (TPS) -- Interior Minister Arye Deri (Shas) has approved the recommendations made by the committee he appointed regarding admitting Syrian refugees to Israel.
The committee recommended Israel admit 100 children orphaned as a result of the civil war.
Until now Israel has provided medical assistance to injured civilians and rebel fighters who were able to get themselves evacuated to the Golan border crossing. Dozens of seriously injured Syrians people have been admitted to Israeli hospitals, where they received whatever treatment and care they needed to recover. Once recovered, they were not allowed to remain in Israel, and either returned to Syria or joined the wave of Syrian refugees in Turkey and Europe.
Israeli policy to other refugees, especially from Africa remains unchanged.
