Israeli-Arab Planning Bombing Attack Arrested
Jerusalem, 9 January, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Israeli security forces arrested an Israeli-Arab on suspicion of planning a bombing attack, it was cleared for publication on Thursday.
The suspect, identified as Mahmoud Hussein Muhammad Bushkar, a 37-year-old resident of the northern town of Kabul, reportedly confessed to planning to construct an explosive belt for an attack.
Investigators uncovered that Bushkar had consumed content related to bomb-making, conducted experiments with TATP explosives, and attempted to build a pipe bomb. He also tried, unsuccessfully, to recruit accomplices to further his plans.
Evidence seized during the investigation included a firearm, ammunition, and materials used for manufacturing explosives.
According to the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), Bushkar’s actions were inspired by the Israeli-Gaza conflict of May 2021 when Israeli-Arabs rioted in the mixed Jewish-Arab cities of Haifa, Jaffa, Lod, and Akko. Three Israelis were killed in and hundreds of homes, businesses, cars and synagogues were torched or vandalized.
