Jerusalem, 25 October, 2023 (TPS) -- Israel’s Ministry of Education released information on Tuesday about the number of students and educational staff who were killed, wounded and kidnapped by Hamas terrorists at the beginning of the war on October 7.

According to the ministry, 34 students were killed, 30 kidnapped, and 15 injured. Additionally, 10 teachers were killed, one kidnapped, two missing, and 10 injured.

The information was released by the Knesset Education Committee, supervised by Dalit Stauber, head of the victims’ directorate at the Ministry of Education.

Stauber added that at least 800 students and staff members have experienced immediate family members being harmed since the beginning of the war, which is why the Ministry of Education has opened an emergency phone line manned around the clock by experts in anxiety and trauma.

The emergency center reports that it has received hundreds of calls. Also, each family has been assigned a representative of the Ministry of Education to assist them and keep them informed about developments.

On Tuesday, the Committee of University heads announced that university classes will not start before December 3 because of the number of students and instructors who have been called for reserve duty.

Once a date is set for universities to resume classes, students will be notified at least two weeks ahead of time.
