Jerusalem, 15 October, 2024 (TPS) -- The Israeli army’s Mountain Brigade, which specializes in combat in mountainous and snowy areas, have been carrying out raids on Hezbollah positions in the area of Mount Dov over the last, the Israel Defense Forces said on Tuesday.

“The purpose of the operations is to damage Hezbollah’s terrorist infrastructure and prevent its establishment in the region,” the IDF said. “So far, the brigade has carried out several targeted raids on the Radwan Force compounds, which were used by the terrorists to carry out terrorist activities.”

The Mountain Brigade located and destroyed weapons, observation devices and other terror infrastructure. In one compound from which Hezbollah fled, a solar panel was found which provided the terrorists with electricity. Also uncovered were enough weapons and equipment to indicate they planned to remain for an extended time.

Mount Dov is the easternmost point of the Israel-Lebanon border, where it converges with Syria.

On the slopes of Mount Dov is a strip of land known as Shebaa Farms, which Israel captured from Syria during the Six-Day War of 1967. Hezbollah claims Shebaa Farms belongs to Lebanon.

After the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023, the Iran-backed Hezbollah began firing rockets and launching drones at northern Israel communities daily. According to figures released by the government on Sept. 29, more than 68,000 residents of northern Israel are displaced from their homes. Hezbollah leaders have repeatedly said they would continue the attacks to prevent Israelis from returning to their homes.

According to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 Second Lebanon War, the terror group is forbidden from operating in southern Lebanon south of the Litani River.
