Israeli Poetry Event Held at Baku State University

Jerusalem, 19 May, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTAC) – An event on the topic “Israeli Poetry: Classical and Modern Period” was held at the joint initiative of the Student Scientific Society of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Baku State University (BSU), the Department of Arabic Philology, and with the participation of students studying in the specialty of regional studies (Israel).

BSU told AZERTAC that first, the students provided information about the formation and main directions of Israeli poetry.

During the event, presentations dedicated to the lives and works of famous Israeli poets such as Chaim Nahman Bialik, Leah Goldberg, Yehuda Amichai, Rachel, Nathan Alterman, Erez Biton and other prominent poets were shown. Selected poems by these poets were recited in Hebrew by the students and their translations into Azerbaijani were presented.

The event focused on themes of patriotism, human-nature relations, immigration, and the search for identity in Israeli poetry. It was emphasized that this poetry is not only an expression of artistic and aesthetic, but also of cultural and political memory.

At the end, the dean of the faculty, Aydan Khandan, deputy dean for academic affairs, Nigar Ismayilzadeh, and senior lecturer Tarana Huseynbalayeva made speeches and highly appreciated the students’ initiative.
