Kazakhstan Launching Healthy Seeds Center to Increase Crop Yields
Jerusalem, 12 February, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- (Kazainform) – The Advanced Center for Healthy Seeds is being created with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kazinform reports with reference to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The project will be implemented in 2026 at the Kazakh Research Institute of Plant Protection and Quarantine named after Zh. Zhiembaev.
According to the department, it will be equipped with modern equipment and staffed with highly qualified specialists. The main task of the center will be to combat pathogens that pose a threat to crop yields and environmental safety.
The center will collaborate with seed farms across the country, analyzing seed samples from various crops. The main goal of the project is to increase the share of domestic seeds to 80% by 2030.
The use of innovative methods of phytoexpertise and seed improvement will not only make the harvest safer, but also increase its productivity. According to experts, improvement of the seed stock is a key factor in the fight against plant diseases, up to 70% of which are transmitted through seeds. It is expected that thanks to the work of the center, the yield of agricultural crops can increase by at least 40%, — the Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement.
This follows the July launch of the Ontustik consortium in Almaty. The scientific and production selection and seed consortium provides Kazakh farmers with access to high-quality domestic seeds and varieties.
