Majority of Bulgarians See Threat from Middle East Conflict, Few Feel Personally at Risk
Jerusalem, 25 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Sofia (BTA) – The majority of Bulgarians see a real threat to their country from the Middle East conflict, but they do not seem to feel personal danger, according to a survey by the Myara polling agency published on Wednesday.
The data comes from an independent survey from the regular research program of the polling agency. The survey was conducted face-to-face with tablets between March 7 and 16, 2026, among 809 adult Bulgarian citizens. One percent of the entire sample equals nearly 54,000 people.
About 52.3% of respondents indicate that the conflict in Iran and the Middle East poses a real threat to Bulgaria, while 29.1% are of the opinion that it does not. The survey shows that the rest hesitate in their answer. Some 30.7% of respondents accepted the opinion, “The conflict in Iran and the Middle East poses a real threat to me personally,” while 44.6% are of the opposite opinion: “The conflict in Iran and the Middle East does not pose a real threat to me personally.”
The youngest are also those who are most hesitant in their answers, according to Myara.
At the same time, the feeling of threat to the country turns out to be higher in the capital city than in smaller communities. Analysts believe that this may have its objective prerequisites, but it is also possible that it is due to the concentration of politicized strata precisely in the capital – with a more active attitude towards the processes.
