Memorandum of Understanding Signed between Government of Bulgaria, Amazon Web Services

Outgoing Innovations and Growth Minister Daniel Lorer Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding between Bulgaria and Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL (AWS), Lorer’s Ministry said in a press release.

The memorandum will boost the cooperation between Bulgaria and AWS in innovations and economic development through digital skills education of the future generations, promotion of cloud-based businesses in Bulgaria and assistance in digital transformation and cyber-security.

At the signing ceremony Lorer said that the partnership with AWS will bring to a new higher level the digital skills and the digital transformation of Bulgaria’s public administration and the private sector, which he said is important not just for the economic development but also in ensuring better governance transparency and efficiency.

The memorandum also boosts the development of a number of programmes regarding cloud services and the implementation of the national priorities for digitalization and innovations of start-ups, the public administration, and key research initiatives.

AWS will provide access to AWS Educate and SAW Academy to Bulgarian educational establishments.

Access to AWS Activate and to AWS Credits, as well as to resources for quick launch and development of cloud-based businesses, will be provided to the start-up community in Bulgaria.

The memorandum increases AWS’s investment intentions in Bulgaria after in April the company announced an investment of USD 3.75 million in the newly-opened Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) in Sofia.
