Online shopping increased by 14 pct in North Macedonia

Online shopping continues to grow at an accelerated pace in the country. A survey conducted in the first quarter of 2019 in North Macedonia shows a 14 percent increase of online shopping of online shoppers that bought or ordered goods or services over the internet in the 12 months. 35.9 percent of online users shopped online this year compared to 31.6 percent in the same period last year, e-Commerce Association said.

Internet penetration in the first quarter of 2019 increased to 81.8 percent of household coverage, compared to 79.3 percent in the same period last year.

81 percent of individuals aged 15 to 74 in North Macedonia had used the internet in past three months compared to 79.2 percent in the same period last year.

The highest proportion of e-shoppers in North Macedonia both last and this year mostly bought clothes and sports gear (35.8%), household products (10.4%) and telecommunication services (20%). A large majority of e-shoppers (38.8 percent) made online purchases from sellers in the country.
