Palestinian Injures 2 in Terror Attack at Jerusalem Checkpoint
Jerusalem, 13 March, 2024 (TPS) -- A 15-year-old Palestinian injured two Israelis at a Jerusalem checkpoint on Wednesday morning before being shot and killed by police officers.
Injured in the attack were a man and a woman, both security guards in their twenties. Both were evacuated to local hospitals in moderate condition.
Shilo Etting, a volunteer EMT with United Hatzalah, said, “I was on a bus and a few seconds after we passed the checkpoint we heard gunshots. I told the bus driver that I was a United Hatzalah EMT and he allowed me to get off to help the wounded. I arrived at the scene in about half a minute, and I provided initial treatment to a young man and woman suffering from stab wounds. At this stage, their condition is defined as mild and mild to moderate.”
Police identified the terrorist as Muhammad Abu Hamed, who lived near the checkpoint. An eyewitness said that Abu Hamed arrived at the checkpoint on a bicycle.
The attack came as Israel beefed up security during the Islamic month of Ramadan, which began on Sunday night. In the last several years, Palestinian terror attacks have surged during Ramadan.
“There were quite a few warnings,” said Israeli Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai at the checkpoint. “Everyone is trying to set fire to the sector here.”
