Police and Military Аcademies from Three Countries Develop Facial Recognition Platform

Four police and naval academies from Romania, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic have been jointly developing an electronic platform to enable facial recognition and identification, revealed the deputy head of the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy(NVNA) in Varna on Thursday, Captain Nikolay Velikov is head of the FAST project from the Bulgarian side.

In addition to NVNA, the participants in the project include the Police Academy from Cluj-Napoca (Romania), the Police College in Holisov (Czechia), the Naval Academy in Constanta and an IT company.

The funds for the implementation of the project (about EUR 200,000) have been provided under the Erasmus+ program, explained Velikov. He said that the facial recognition platform will be used when admissions to the academies are implemented and candidates are to be interviewed remotely. According to him, future upgrades will provide for conducting exams online to ensure that there are no attempts at cheating by the students. When the platform is ready, other training police and military organizations in Bulgaria that could use it will be informed, Velikov added.
