Jerusalem, 16 October, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Shumen (BTA) – Mobile police teams met today with residents of the Novopazari villages of Bedzhene and Preselka. One of the tasks of the law enforcement officers was to explain to them the possible ways of fraud before the exchange of levs for euros begins. This was announced by the press center of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Shumen.

People from both settlements are advised not to trust street vendors, not to be tempted by offers of a favorable exchange rate when exchanging levs for euros, and that it is possible to receive counterfeit banknotes when exchanging money.

Information leaflets with advice on the upcoming changes related to the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria were also distributed to the residents of the two villages.

On October 9, police officers also held preventive meetings with residents of Novi Pazar who receive their pensions at post offices.

On January 1, 2026, the Euro will replace the Bulgarian lev as the country’s sole currency.
