Power Failure Suspends Train Traffic at Sofia Central Station
Jerusalem, 25 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Sofia (BTA) – Train traffic through Sofia Central Station was restored on Sunday after voltage was applied to the contact network, the National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRI) announced.
Traffic was suspended from 11:55 a.m. due to a broken pantograph during a passenger train locomotive overheat. As a result of the damage, there was no voltage in the contact network.
Due to the incident, a temporary organization of train traffic was introduced. Suburban passenger trains No. 50283 and No. 50280 on the Sofia – Pernik – Sofia route, as well as No. 10221 and No. 10224 on the Sofia – Kostenets – Sofia route, were canceled.
The NRIC added that shunting diesel locomotives were engaged to ensure traffic, with which the train sets were moved to neighboring stations.
