Rabbi Mark Schneier: Azerbaijan a Global Example of Interfaith Cooperation, Coexistence
Jerusalem, 14 May, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Washington (AZERTAC) Azerbaijan is a global example of interfaith cooperation, dialogue, and coexistence.
These words were spoken to AZERTAC by Rabbi Mark Schneier, president of the US Foundation for Ethnic Understanding. He said that as a rabbi, he attaches special importance to Azerbaijan for three important criteria.
“First, among 57 Muslim countries, Azerbaijan is Israel’s closest friend. Second, Azerbaijan and President Ilham Aliyev deeply respects the country’s Jewish community. Between 25,000 and 30,000 Jews live in Azerbaijan, and they are treated with great respect by President Ilham Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people. Third, Azerbaijan is an example to the world in terms of interfaith and intercultural dialogue and coexistence,” the rabbi said.
Schneier added that Israel has no closer friend or stronger ally in the Muslim world than Azerbaijan: “President Ilham Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan demonstrate sincere solidarity and support for the Jewish state. That is why the State of Israel and the Jewish people around the world are extremely grateful to President Ilham Aliyev and the Republic of Azerbaijan for their continued support and solidarity.”
