Renewable Sources Provide 40 Percent of Azerbaijan’s Electricity Demand

Jerusalem, 15 April, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTAC) – In January-March of this year, electricity production in the Azerbaijan amounted to 7 billion 171.8 million kWh.

The Ministry of Energy told AZERTAC that during this period, 6 billion 318.3 million kWh of electricity was produced at Thermal Power Plants (TPPs), and 669.6 million kWh at Hydropower Plants (HPS). Production from other sources was 183.9 million kWh, including 9.5 million kWh at wind power plants and 112.5 million kWh at solar power plants. 61.9 million kWh of electricity was produced at the Solid Waste Incineration Plant.

Compared to the same period last year, an increase of 243.9 million kWh was recorded in electricity production from renewable energy sources.

During the quarter, electricity production by “AzerEnergy” OJSC amounted to 6 billion 385 million kWh (5 billion 739.9 million kWh at thermal power plants, 645.1 million kWh at hydroelectric power plants), 91.2 million kWh at the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic State Energy Service (55.7 million kWh at thermal power plants, 21.7 million kWh at hydroelectric power plants, 13.8 million kWh at hydroelectric power plants), 6.3 million kWh at wind power plants by “Azerishig” OJSC, and 689.3 million kWh at independent power plants.

During the reporting period, electricity exports amounted to 385.0 million kWh, while imports amounted to 35.7 million kWh.

It should be noted that in March of this year, the production of electricity in the republic amounted to 2 billion 319.1 million kWh. During this period, the export of electricity amounted to 85.6 million kWh, and the import was 16.1 million kWh.
