SEC: Voter Turnout in Shtip 2.94% Until 9 am, in Plasnica 7.37%

Jerusalem, 14 December, 2020 (TPS) -- Skopje, 13 December 2020 (MIA) – Voter turnout in Sunday’s early mayoral elections in Shtip municipality is 2.94% until 9 am, i.e. 1,227 citizens voted, whereas in Plasnica municipality the voter turnout is 7.37% until 9 am, i.e. 365 voters, the State Election Commission (SEC) said Sunday.

According to SEC, 41,777 voters are registered in Voters List in the municipality of Shtip, whereas 4,954 in Plasnica.

“All polling stations in Shtip and Plasnica opened on time on Sunday morning and no irregularities have been reported in the voting process. Polling stations opened at 7 am and will close at 7 pm on election day,” the press release reads.

SEC notes that all information on the voting in the early mayoral elections, including voter turnout and live results after polls close, are available on www.lokalni2020.sec.mk.

Shtip has a total of 77 polling stations. Elections are conducted under strict health protocols ensuring the protection of people’s health.

Candidates Simon Polikarp of Integra-Macedonian Conservative Party, Sashko Nikolov of SDSM, Trajche Mitev, independent candidate, Goce Angelov of the Future in Our Hands coalition, and Lazar Naumov of TMRO run in the elections for mayor of Shtip.

The elected mayor will remain in that seat for nine months, until the next regular municipal elections to be held in 2021.

On Friday and Saturday, the voting process in Shtip and Plasnica was carried out for those infected with COVID-19 or self-isolating, the sick and the frail, prison inmates and people in nursing homes.

Election boards carried out the voting process for the sick and the frail, and those in house arrest, and submitted the appropriate documentation to municipal election commissions, SEC said Saturday.

“A total of 142 voters have registered as sick or frail to exercise their voting right at home. Of these, 66 voters are in Shtip municipality, all of whom exercised their right to vote, and 76 voters are in Plasnica municipality, of whom 70 exercised their right to vote,” SEC’s press release read.

The voting process was also carried out in a nursing home, which registered two voters from Shtip municipality, of whom only one exercised the right to vote.

In addition, 67 prison inmates from Shtip municipality were registered to exercise their voting right on Saturday, of whom 60 cast their vote, as well as 1 prison inmate from Plasnica municipality who exercised the voting right.
