Sílvia Pérez Cruz to Open 19th OFFest
Jerusalem, 3 November, 2020 (TPS) -- Skopje, 3 November 2020 (MIA) — Opening this year’s OFFest world music festival at the Philharmonic at 8 pm, Catalan singer Sílvia Pérez Cruz will present her latest album, “Farsa (gènere impossible),” which she wrote with artists working in theater, film, and dance as well as painters, photographers and poets.
According to the OFFest press release, Sílvia Pérez Cruz is known in both jazz and fado/flamenco circles as a remarkable musical storyteller.
A trained jazz singer, pianist and saxophonist, Pérez Cruz formed the flamenco group Las Migas while studying in Barcelona. She launched her solo career at 27, writing her own songs and performing in Spanish, Catalan and Portuguese.
She has also regularly written music for cinema, theater and dance productions, collaborating with artists such as Joan Manuel Serrat, Jorge Drexler, Natalia Lafourcade, Gino Paoli, Javier Colina, Hamilton de Holanda, and Rocío Molina or Toquinho.
Pérez Cruz has recorded six albums so far. Two of her albums received the “11 de novembra” and “Granada” awards.
“There seems to be a consensus about one thing when it comes to Sílvia’s shows, though: singing her own songs or performing covers, in any language, new or classic ones, the language that dominates the scene, in the end, is always one of the emotions,” OFFest organizers say.
Tickets are available online.
