Skopje celebrates Nov. 13, Liberation Day

North Macedonia’s capital is hosting special activities to celebrate its Liberation Day.

Skopje Mayor Petre Shilegov will meet with WWII Veterans Union representatives, and official delegations will lay flowers at several memorials to fallen heroes.

A new art gallery will open at the GTC city shopping center at 2 pm.

At 8 pm, the National Opera and Ballet will host the 2019 November 13 awards ceremony.

On Nov. 13, 1944, the fighters of the 42nd and 50th division of the Yugoslav National Liberation Army and the 16. Macedonian brigade—after days of fierce and steady combat against the German 22nd Infanterie-Division—liberated Skopje from fascist rule.
