Jerusalem, 24 February, 2020 (TPS) -- I hope the EU will keep its promise and open accession talks with  North Macedonia and Albania in March, Slovenian Foreign Minister Miro Cerar said ahead of the high-level conference on the European perspective of the Western Balkans titled “From Thessaloniki to Zagreb” in Thessaloniki on Monday.

“North Macedonia and Greece made historic progress by signing the Prespa Agreement. North Macedonia has demonstrated political wisdom, courage, and readiness to implement reforms. There’s no doubt that the country will be granted a date to open accession negotiations,” Cerar said.

He underlined that Albania too has achieved progress, foremost in the vetting process, and therefore hopes the two countries will be asked to start accession talks in March.

“Slovenia strongly supports opening accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania. This is important for the people in both countries,” Cerar said.
