Sofia Philharmonic Concert Marks 80th Anniversary of Bulgarian Jews Rescue

The Sofia Philharmonic will give a concert on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the rescue of Bulgarian Jews at the Bulgaria concert hall on September 3. Admission is free, the orchestra said.

Four big musical formations will share the stage: the Sofia Philharmonic, the Ashira Choir from Israel (conducted by Itzhak Tavior), Capella Anima (conducted by Stanimira Manolova), and Zamir Choir from Bayreuth (conducted by Barbara Beyer).

The concert will be conducted by Itzhak Tavior and Barbara Beyer and James Clark will be soloists.

The programme features “Academic Festival Overture” by Johannes Brahms, the aria Qui la Voce from I Puritani by Vincenzo Bellini, and the folk song “If I Forget you Jerusalem” among other.

The concert is part of a series of events which commemorate Bulgaria’s role during World War Two, to rescue the Bulgarian Jews from the Holocaust and is held under the auspices of the Bulgarian President.
