Jerusalem, 8 May, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Sofia (BTA) – The fifteenth edition of the Sofia Science Festival has begun at Sofia Tech Park.

The festival was opened in front of the John Atanasov Forum building by Ivaylo Slavov, Chairman of the Beautiful Science Foundation.

“The festival was and remains the largest mass science event in the country – a place for the audience to meet scientists from Bulgaria and abroad. Thanks to this, Sofia ranks among the capitals that have their own science festivals. This increases the transparency of the results of public investments in scientific infrastructure and technologies,” said Ivaylo Slavov in his welcoming speech. He added that this year some of the lectures were recorded by a BBC team.

A congratulatory speech was also read by the Minister of Education and Science, Krasimir Valchev.

“Such events play a huge role in building connections between the scientific community, schools, institutions, businesses and citizens, creating trust in science. When knowledge goes beyond textbooks and academic halls and is presented clearly, engagingly and in accessible language, it becomes a tool for understanding the world, for personal development and for making more informed decisions,” said Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev.

The forum attracted representatives of the academic community, business and government institutions, as well as numerous students, experts and scientists from Bulgaria and abroad. Among the official guests were the Deputy Mayor of Sofia Ivan Vassilev and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sofia Tech Park Vasil Karaivanov, who also greeted the attendees.

“I am very happy to see the young students here today, who I believe will be inspired and captivated by the magic of science, thanks to the Bulgarian scientists who will make it accessible and interesting for them,” said Sofia Deputy Mayor Ivan Vassilev.

Vasil Karaivanov called on the forum visitors to actively participate in the program prepared by the Beautiful Science Foundation.

Visitors had the opportunity to view interactive exhibits, attend lectures by experts in various scientific fields, and participate in practical workshops where they could create small scientific projects themselves.

The final event of the festival on May 11 will be the National Final of the FameLab Bulgaria 2025 competition . It will feature 11 Bulgarian and one Romanian scientists who were selected in five preliminary selection rounds in Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv and Antarctica, from the Bulgarian base on Livingston Island.
