Stabbing Attempt on Jerusalem's Yirmiyahu Street; Terrorist Neutralized
Jerusalem, 6 December, 2015 (TPS) -- On Sunday evening, December 6, a man was stabbed on Yirmiyahu Street in Jerusalem.
The 65-year-old victim received emergency treatment at the scene by MADA responders before being evacuated to Sha’arei Tzedek Hospital fully conscious and in light condition, having sustained minor stab wounds to his limbs.
Additionally, a 20-year-old was evacuated to the same hospital after having been struck by a vehicle during the incident. Two other passersby were taken to the hospital’s trauma unit one of whom received a stab wound to the shoulder and the second hit in the leg by a car. Both were reportedly in light but stable condition.
Senior MADA paramedic Yitzhak Angel who arrived at the scene recounted how the incident transpired: “When we arrived a 60-year-old man was walking fully conscious with a stab wound to his upper limbs. We brought him to the ambulance in which we evacuated him to the hospital while providing medical assistance.”
Elishevah Perez, an emergency paramedic also described a 20-year-old victim, who upon MADA’s arrival, was lying in a car in full consciousness suffering from wounds to his lower limbs inflicted by a car. The victim was transported to hospital in light condition.
“His mood was very uneasy. He explained to us that he was hit by a vehicle and civilians nearby helped him into a car until we arrived.”
A police spokesperson provided additional information shortly after the attack: “Initial investigations show that a 21-year-old terrorist from north Jerusalem arrived in a civilian vehicle to Yirmiyahu Street and ran over two young individuals walking on the sidewalk. He then exited his vehicle and proceeded to run on Yirmiyahu Street. As he run he spotted a police vehicle, stabbed the driver inside thereby lightly injuring him on his hand. He then attempted to flee the scene.”
“A soldier who saw the incident exited a bus an ran in the direction of the terrorist, fired upon him and effectively neutralized him.”
The attack is the first to have taken place in three days, interrupting what seemed to be a short respite in almost daily terror attacks in Israel.
