State Intervention Ends Unauthorized Use of Historic Baku Bathhouse
Jerusalem, 11 September, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- During an inspection of historical and cultural monuments in Baku, it was determined that a bathhouse in the capital’s Yasamal District under state protection as an architectural monument of local importance was being used illegally.
AZERTAC was informed about this by the State Service for the Protection, Development and Restoration of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture.
It was reported that during the investigation, it was discovered that the lease agreement presented had expired.
“In accordance with the legislation, the use of historical and cultural monuments for scientific, cultural, religious, service and tourism purposes, their lease and privatization of architectural monuments of local importance must be carried out with the consent of the State Service for the Protection, Development and Restoration of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture. It was determined that the use of the non-residential area in question, including the lease, was carried out without prior consent.”
It was revealed that although there was a lease agreement No. 8379/505 dated 01.01.2021 regarding the non-residential area in question, according to the resolution of the Baku Commercial Court, the agreement was terminated as of 07.06.2023. Despite this, illegal use of the monument, located at 48 Zargarpalan Street, continued.
“As a result of the measures taken by the State Service, illegal use of the monument has been prevented,” the State Service said in a statement.
