Subhan Mamedov Becomes Azerbaijan’s Youngest-Ever Boxing World Champion

Jerusalem, 14 December, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTAC) – Azerbaijani boxer Subhan Mamedov (48 kilograms) became the world champion.

AZERTAC reports that the 19-year-old athlete of the national team won this title at the World Cup held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

At the end of November, the winner of the U-23 European Championship, the graduate of the Agjabedi boxing school, faced Edmond Khudoyan (Russia) in the final. Mamedov defeated his opponent with a score of 4:3 (30:27, 28:29, 29:28, 30:27, 28:29, judges 1:1) and won the gold medal of the world championship. Thus, he went down in history as the youngest world champion from Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani team finished the world championship, which was attended by 120 countries, with one gold and two bronze medals. Previously, Alfonso Dominguez (92 kilograms) and Mahammad Abdullayev (+92 kilograms) took third place in the world championship.
