Terrorist Attack Thwarted by Israel Police

Jerusalem, 17 January, 2017 (TPS) -- Israel Border Police guards operating in East Jerusalem arrested on Monday an Arab resident from the Palestinian territories  who revealed during his interrogation he had intended to carry out an attack on the security forces in East Jerusalem.

Border Police guards operating in At-Tur in East Jerusalem, approximately one kilometer from the Old City, arrested a bus belonging to the public transportation services of East Jerusalem. They subsequently arrested a youngster who raised suspicions during their searches of the bus. Preliminary investigation on the sight revealed that the 19-year-old, resident of the Palestinian territories, had no legal stay permits and thus was brought for further questioning.

The investigation conducted indicated that the suspect arrived from East Jerusalem that day and had intended to go to the Damascus Gate, buy a knife with the cash in his possession harm the security forces deployed in the area.

The suspect’s detention was extended by the court until Wednesday, when the police will ask for a second extension in order to further the investigation.
