Terrorist Gets Life in Jail, Victim's Family Calls For Limited Privileges
Jerusalem, 9 January, 2017 (TPS) -- Mohammed Abu-Shahin was sentenced by a military court Monday to life imprisonment for the murder of Danny Gonen in 2015. Abu-Shahin was also ordered to pay NIS 3.5 million ($907,000) in damages. In addition, the court added an additional life sentence for the attempted murders of Netanel Hadad and Avichai Azoran.
The court also said Abu-Shahin should not be considered for release in any future prisoner exchange.
Devora Gonen, Danny’s mother, said “the State of Israel allows this animal that happens to walk around on two legs but is mistakenly called a human being to continue to celebrate, at all of our expense.
“The prisoners have a great set of benefits. They sit around and enjoys all the good things that life has to offer. They get paid by the Palestinian Authority, they get food packages from the Red Cross that would compare to any top-notch restaurant in downtown Tel Aviv and living conditions that the poor members of Israeli society could only dream of,” Devora Goren said.
Matan Peleg, director of the Im Tirtzu student organization that has been supporting the family, said “a situation in which a terrorist murderer enjoys more benefits and services than other criminals in Israel is a humiliating absurdity.
“Organizations funded by foreign governments are working to ensure far-reaching rights for terrorists in Israeli jails while at the same time condemning the families of the victims in court. Decision makers must wake up and change this situation immediately,” Peleg added.
