‘This Moral Comparison Is Painful and Wrong’: Israel Rejects UN Report

Public By Pesach Benson • 13 March, 2025

Jerusalem, 13 March, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Israeli officials denounced a United Nations report accusing Israeli forces in Gaza of “committing genocidal acts” on Thursday.

“The anti-Israel circus known as the UN ‘Human Rights Council’ has long been revealed as an antisemitic, rotten and irrelevant organization that supports terrorism. For good reason Israel decided to quit it approximately one month ago,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement.

“Instead of focusing on the crimes against humanity and the war crimes that were perpetrated by the Hamas terrorist organization in the worst massacre carried out against the Jewish People since the Holocaust, the UN has again chosen to attack the State of Israel with false accusations, including baseless accusations of sexual violence,” Netanyahu said.

The report — published on Thursday by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel — claimed Israeli forces “intentionally attacked and destroyed” Gaza’s main fertility center. It also accused Israel of blocking medicine for neonatal care from entering the Strip.

The report also accused Israeli soldiers of widespread sexual violence.

“The report found that sexual and gender-based violence – which has risen in frequency and severity – is being perpetrated across the Occupied Palestinian Territory as a strategy of war for Israel to dominate and destroy the Palestinian people,” the report’s committee of authors said.

Cochav Elkayam-Levy, who headed Israel’s independent Civil Commission on October 7th Crimes by Hamas against Women and Children, which worked to document accounts of Hamas’s sexual violence against Israeli women, said the report was part of “efforts to create a false comparison between Israel and Hamas, especially in the context of sexual violence.”

Said Elkayam-Levy, “This moral comparison is painful and wrong because its purpose is to establish false historical narratives and inflicts irreparable harm both on the victims and on justice. We have always believed in international institutions and the human rights system, but such conduct, which seeks to entrench false historical narratives, must end. We owe the truth to the victims.”

Hagit Peer, president of Israeli women’s rights group Na’amat, called the report “outrageous,” saying the document “attempts to turn the victim into the aggressor.”

Said Peer, “This report reeks of blatant antisemitism. There is an effort here to create an alternative and inverted reality regarding the sexual massacre carried out by Hamas against Israeli women and men, while international institutions remain deafeningly silent.”

Eighty-five percent of Gaza’s hospitals have been used by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad for terror according to the Israel Defense Forces.

As reported by The Press Service of Israel in 2023, Hamas made extensive use of the Shifa Hospital, Gaza’s largest medical center. Hamas launched rockets from its compound, hid hostages in the bowels of the building, tortured collaborators, and dug tunnel shafts.

Other Palestinians told Israeli interrogators Hamas deeply embedded itself in the Palestinian Red Crescent Society to use hospitals and clinics as a base for attacks.

At least 1,180 people were killed, and 252 Israelis and foreigners were taken hostage in Hamas’s attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on October 7. Of the 59 remaining hostages, 36 are believed to be dead.
