Three Hurt in Gush Etzion Car Ramming Attack

By Andrew Friedman/TPS • 30 October, 2016

Jerusalem, 30 October, 2016 (TPS) -- Developing Story: A Palestinian driver attempted to run over a group of IDF soldiers near the village of Beit Ummar, north of Hebron. Three Border Police soldiers were lightly injured and evacuated to Shaarei Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem; other soldiers at the site shot and killed the terrorist.

The attack was the third in the Gush Etzion area in less than 24 hours. Saturday night, Palestinians fired at an Israeli car near Karmei Tzur, about a kilometer from Sunday’s attack. Ruti Gillis, who’s husband Dr. Shmuel Gillis was killed in a shooting attack on the same road in 2001, was the driver of the car.

Sunday afternoon, a five-year-old child was wounded when the car he was in was pelted with stones in eastern Gush Etzion, near Efrat. The child was evacuated to Hadassah University Hospital – Ein Karem and treated for light wounds.

Acting Gush Etzion Mayor Moshe Savil said the decision not to react to ongoing stoning attacks would create more opportunities for Palestinians to shoot at Israeli cars.

“We must stop this wave of terror,” Savil said in a statement. “We are certain that MK LIberman, the defense minister and a resident of this area, will carry though on his promise to act with an iron hand.

“I remind that there are two sides to the carrot-and-stick approach,” Savil said.
