Three Killed, At Least 90 Injured in Iranian Missile Strikes on Central Israel
Jerusalem, 16 June, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Three people were killed and at least 90 injured in an early morning missile barrage from Iran that struck multiple sites across central Israel on Monday.
The deadliest impact occurred in Petah Tikva, where a building suffered a direct hit. “This is a large and complex scene with many casualties. We are in the scanning phase. The situation could change,” said Central District Commander Maj. Gen. Yair Hetzroni.
Among the wounded were a 30-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy, both in serious condition. Six others sustained moderate injuries, and the majority were treated for light wounds and anxiety.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, approximately 40 missiles were launched in the latest barrage.
Additional strikes were reported in Tel Aviv and the Greater Haifa area. In Haifa, two people were injured in a direct hit, and initial contact was lost with three others before rescuers managed to reach them.
Meanwhile, rescue teams recovered two more bodies from the rubble of a building in Bat Yam hit the previous night, raising the total death toll from the ongoing missile attacks to nine. Search efforts are continuing for at least one person still missing under the debris.
Israel launched preemptive strikes against Iranian nuclear sites on Friday, citing intelligence that Tehran had reached “a point of no return” in its pursuit of nuclear weapons. According to Israeli defense officials, Iran has developed the capacity to rapidly enrich uranium and assemble nuclear bombs, with sufficient fissile material for up to 15 weapons.
Israeli intelligence also exposed a covert program to complete all components of a nuclear device. The strikes mark a dramatic escalation in what officials describe as a broader Iranian strategy combining nuclear development, missile proliferation, and proxy warfare aimed at Israel’s destruction.
