Jerusalem, 4 January, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Two Israeli citizens who crossed into Syrian territory by car were captured by the Israeli soldiers and are now in detention, the Israeli Police said on Saturday night.

It wasn’t clear why the two crossed the border.

One detainee is from the Arab city of Tamra, the other from the Druze village of Buq’ata, both in northern Israel.

The two were taken to a police station in the Golan Heights for further questioning.

Authorities emphasized that entering border-adjacent areas is both prohibited and hazardous. Crossing into Syria or Lebanon is illegal and punishable by up to four years in prison.
