Jerusalem, 9 December, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTAC) – A first in the history of mountaineering in Azerbaijan was achieved on International Mountain Day.

Azerbaijani climber Vafa Musayeva (Gahraman) has officially presented her certificates for climbing Everest (8,848 meters) and Lhotse (8,516 meters) for the first time in the country, AZERTAC reports.

She said during the presentation that her main goal is to share this success with the Azerbaijani public. Musayeva has become a first among Azerbaijani climbers, especially female athletes, by climbing both peaks in a row within the same expedition this year. Climbing Everest and Lhotse in one expedition is a result that few women in the world have achieved.

Musayeva’s mountaineering activities began on local peaks – Bazarduzu, Shahdag, Tufandag and other mountains.

Everest is the world’s tallest mountain. The nearby Lhotse is the world’s fourth highest.

It should be noted that the first female climber to set foot on the summit of Everest was Junko Tabei from Japan in 1976.
