World-Renowned Clarinetist and Jerusalem Opera Director Present the Music of Israel in Bulgaria

The famous Israeli clarinetist Orit Orbach and the music director of the Jerusalem Opera Maestro Omer Arieli are guests of the Sofia Philharmonic on April 7.

The program includes works by Israeli composers such as “Migratory Birds” by Yosif Bardanashvili, “Music for Strings” by Paul Ben-Haim, “Psalm” by Yehezkel Brown, “Jewish Rhapsody” for clarinet and orchestra by Andre Haidu, and “Jewish Rhapsody” Tzvi Avni.

Orit Orbach is among the most respected clarinetists in the world. Critics note her artistry, presence and natural musicality.

She performs as a soloist with orchestras such as the Israel Philharmonic, conducted by Zubin Meta, the Jerusalem Orchestra, the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, the Colorado Symphony, Hagen and the Warsaw Philharmonic, etc.

She collaborated with elite musicians such as Shlomo Mintz, Daniel Barenboim, Yuri Bashmet, Murray Paraiya, Raphael Wallfisch and David Sawyer.

As principal clarinetist of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Symphony Orchestra, the Haifa Symphony Orchestra, and the Israel Camera Jerusalem, Orbach has performed at many festivals, including The Marlboro Festival, Tengelud Music Festival, Neustadt Chamber Festival, Warsaw Jewish Music Festival, Canberra Music Festival and the San Francisco Jewish Music Festival.

Orbach participated in the jury of several international competitions, among which are the “Penderecki” International Competition for Contemporary Art in Poland and the International Competition of the America- Israel Cultural Foundation in Israel .

She conducts three wind ensembles and conducts clarinet masterclasses, klezmer (Jewish musical style) and improvisation workshops around the world.

For the past 15 years, Orit has been part of the female ensemble “Eve’s Women Band,” which is highly regarded as a performer of Middle Eastern music in the styles of jazz, rock, as well as Balkan. She is a specialist in the field of Jewish music, practices ethnojazz in an exotic feminine interpretation.

Omer Ariely is the music director of major institutions in Jerusalem: the opera, the oratorio choir, the orchestra “Hovevei Hamusica”, the opera studio of the Academy of Music, where he is also a teacher. He has conducted most of the Israeli orchestras, the Dortmund Philharmonic, the American Symphony Orchestra, the Maderna Orchestra and many student orchestras.

Arieli grew up in Florence, where he studied violin, piano, composition and chamber music at the Cherubini Conservatory. He undergoes regular training in conducting at prestigious academies in Israel and Vienna and participates in master classes.

In the 1990s he performed all over Italy as a violinist and pianist, worked at the Roman Opera, “Arena di Verona”, at the “Estate Fiesolana” and “Puccini” festivals. He established dozens of creative partnerships with singers M. Krider, D. Fali, R. Girolami, I. Hossa and many others. He works as a tutor and assistant conductor in most Austrian theaters and festivals, at the “Mainfranken Theater”, at the “Maggio Musicale” in Florence and at the Tel Aviv Opera.
