World’s Largest Shipping Company Opens Office in Azerbaijan
Jerusalem, 5 November, 2025 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTAC) – Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the world’s largest container shipping company, has opened its first office in the Caucasus region – in Azerbaijan.
AZERTAC reports that the company has already appointed Huseyn Ramazanov as its country manager for Azerbaijan.
“As a major logistics player in the Caucasus region, we are pleased to open our first office in Azerbaijan, where MSC has been operating for over 15 years. The new office will help strengthen our position in this important region and create conditions for more effective cooperation with customers, business partners and local institutions,” said Huseyn Ramazanov.
In recent years, the volume of cargo transportation through the Middle Corridor has been growing rapidly. In response to the attractive business growth in the region, international companies such as MSC have significant advantages in optimizing transportation and reducing transit times. Today, Azerbaijan is one of the main strategic centers of the Middle Corridor. MSC’s presence in the region will further strengthen the competitiveness of this route. In addition, Azerbaijan’s steps to digitize transit services and simplify customs processes have further increased the interest of international carriers.
MSC, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, is a global leader in transport and logistics. It has more than 20 years of logistics experience in Azerbaijan and the CIS market. MSC, one of the world’s leading container shipping companies, has 675 offices in 155 countries and approximately 200,000 employees. The company has access to an integrated network of road, rail, air and sea transport resources on a global scale. MSC’s shipping line operates on more than 300 trade routes and calls at more than 520 ports. So far, Azerbaijan has been served by MSC Georgia.
In September, MSC and SOCAR signed a strategic cooperation agreement. SOCAR is Azerbaijan’s state-owned company responsible for the exploration, production, and export of the country’s oil and natural gas resources. The parties aim to strengthen Turkey’s position in the global supply chain through joint investments in SOCAR Terminal, the largest container port in the Aegean region. According to the agreement, MSC’s subsidiary and global terminal operator Terminal Investment Limited (TIL) will become a shareholder in SOCAR Terminal.
