Young Talent Shines at Azerbaijan Boxing Championships

Jerusalem, 29 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) -- Baku (AZERTAC) – The Azerbaijan Championship among men and women boxers has concluded.

According to the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation , 166 athletes from 33 teams competed in the competition, which was attended by clubs from various cities and regions of the country, as well as sports societies. On the last day of the 7-day tournament, the winners of 10 weight categories among men were determined.

The final matches were watched by the Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, President of the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation Sahil Babayev, President of the Azerbaijan Canoe and Rowing Federation Vugar Ahmadov, President of the Azerbaijan Winter Sports Federation Fuad Nagiyev, President of the Azerbaijan Handball Federation Saleh Mammadov, President of the Azerbaijan Golf Federation Rauf Khalilov and officials of other federations.

Before the fights, a video clip was shown about the international tournaments in which Azerbaijani boxers participated and their successes in 2025. Then, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Farid Gayibov, highly praised the confident performance of the national boxing teams in international competitions, and Subhan Mamedov becoming the world champion at the age of 19. He especially emphasized the high level of organization of the Azerbaijani championship, the dominance of young people in the finals, and that this was a gratifying fact.

Then, the strongest boxers of Azerbaijan were determined. Official guests awarded the first three places in the 50 and 55 kilogram weight categories.

Bilalhabashi Nazarov, Nijat Huseynov, Mahammadali Ashiraliyev, Magsud Khasmetov, Nabi Isgandarov, Abbasgulu Shadlinski, Murad Allahverdiyev, Ramal Hasanli, Rauf Rahimov and Batraz Mildzokhov won the championship title after winning the decisive battles.

In the team standings of the tournament, “Neftchi” Sports Club took first place with 6 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze medals. “Demir Yumruq” Boxing Sports Club (2-1-2) took second place, while MOIK (1-1-5) closed the “three”.

Mahammadali Ashuraliyev was named the best boxer at the championship. Galib Abiyev was named the best ringside judge, and Elkhan Guliyev was named the best side referee.

The women’s boxing competition concluded the previous day. Lala Madatova (48 kilograms), Jamila Sultanli (51 kilograms), Emili Rzayeva (60 kilograms) and Fatima Mehdiyeva (65 kg) won the champion titles.
