Court disqualifies confessions of Jewish youth accused of terrorism
The Lod District Court on Tuesday ruled out the admissibility of all the confessions of a boy accused of membership in a Jewish terrorist organization for committing racist crimes, including involvement in arson and property damage at the Church of Dormition in Mount Zion in Jerusalem in 2012. The boy was arrested as part of the investigation into the Duma affair, but investigators founf that he was not involved in the arson attack that resulted in the deaths of three members of one Palestinian family, including an 18-month-old baby.
Palestinian Report: Palestinian-American man convicted for selling property to Jews
Issam Akel – a Palestinian with dual American citizenship was convicted in a Ramallah court on the charge of selling property in Jerusalem to Jewish organizations, Palestinian Ma’an news agency reported on Monday. Selling Palestinian property to Israel is a criminal offense in the Palestinian Authority, with a maximum punishment of life in prison or even execution. Akel was convicted after two months in Palestinian custody, after being arrested in Ramallah in October. Both Israeli and American organizations have called for his immediate release.
Israeli court sentences Hamas operative to 20 years in prison
The Be’er Sheva District Court has sentenced 26 year-old Madchat Sanima, to 20 years in prison, for carrying out terror activities against IDF forces.
Israel’s population nears 9 million
Israel’s population at the end of 2018 stands at 8.972 million people, 2 percent more than a year ago, the Central Bureau of Statistics said on the eve of the civil New Year. Nearly three-quarters of the population (74.3 percent), or 6.66 million people, are Jewish; 20.9 percent (1.878 million) are Arab and 4.8% were listed as “others.”
During 2018, some 185,000 babies were born, 74.4% Jewish, 22.8% Arabs and 2.8% “others.” Some 28,000 new immigrants arrived, 31.5% from Russia. 19.6% from Ukraine, 8% from France and 79% from the United States.
The Central Bureau of Statistics added that the population estimates do not include the foreign worker population residing in Israel, which is estimated to be around 166,000.
