MK Michael Oren announces departure from Kulanu

Former Israeli Ambassador to the United States, MK Michael Oren has announced that he is leaving Kulanu, the centrist party under which he served as a Member of Knesset since 2015.

“In 2015, I was called to serve the State of Israel in the Knesset. For four full years, as both a Member of Knesset and Deputy Minister, I worked tirelessly to strengthen Israel’s relations with the world,” said Oren in a statement, adding that he plans to continue to represent Israel around the world.

Representatives for Oren refused to comment on the former Ambassador’s future plans.

 

Amos Oz passes away at 79

World renowned Israeli novelist Amos Oz passed away on Friday evening at 79.  He was regarded as Israel’s foremost living author.

Oz’s works have been published in over 45 languages – more than any other Israeli writer in history – and he was the recipient of many honors and awards, including the Legion of Honor of France, the Goethe Prize, the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade, the Prince of Asturias Award in Literature, the Heinrich Heine Prize, and the Israel Prize.

 

Ex IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz forms new political party

Ex IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. (res.) Benny Gantz has registered the name of a new political party to be headed by him on Thursday – Chosen L’Israel (Resilience to Israel).

Gantz’s foray into politics has been a long expected occurrence, and polls including a hypothetical party headed by him have predicted an impressive result of 15 Knesset seats.

IDF neutralizes fifth Hezbollah attack tunnel

The IDF has destroyed a fifth Hezbollah tunnel crossing from Lebanon into Israel as part of Operation Northern Shield, an IDF spokesman said Wednesday. “We have just destroyed another Hezbollah attack tunnel that was dug from Lebanon into Israeli territory,” the spokesman said. “The IDF sees the Lebanese government as responsible for the digging of the tunnels and the consequences,” the spokesman added, calling the digging of the tunnels a gross violation of UN Resolution 1701 and of Israeli sovereignty.

Moscow calls Israeli strike in Syria ‘reckless provocation’

The Tuesday night strike against Iranian targets in Syria attributed to Israel was a ‘reckless provocation’ which endangered two civilian aircrafts, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday. Israel has not responded to the claims.
