Court indicts Gaza resident for greenhouse arson

The Be’er Sheva District Court has issued an indictment against a resident of the Gaza Strip for setting a Gaza Belt greenhouse on fire, causing hundreds of thousands of shekels worth of property damage.

According to the indictment, the defendant crossed into Israel no less than seven different times since 2012, in the hopes of being arrested and serving time in an Israeli prison. However, every time he crossed over, the defendant was sent back into Gaza by Israeli Security forces. In his most recent incursion, the defendant decided to set an Israeli greenhouse in Moshav Nativ Ha’asara ablaze, in order to caused heavy damage and serve a significant period of time in an Israeli prison. About 15 minutes after the arson, security forces apprehended the suspect, this time, taking him into custody.

During his interrogation, the suspect claimed that he was recruited by an Islamic activist to “aid Hamas in their fight against Israel,” though that statement turned out to be false.

Eisenkot cancels Germany trip as Netanyahu extends his term

Outgoing IDF Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot cancelled a planned trip to Germany, which was supposed to take place next week, as Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that he will be extending Eisenkot’s term by 15 days. He is to be honorably discharged and replaced by Maj. Gen. Aviv Kochavi as Chief of Staff on January 15th, 2019.

Senior diplomatic source: Israel looking to establish ties with Sudan, Bahrain

Israel is working to establish diplomatic relations with both Sudan and Bahrain, a senior Israeli official said on Sunday night, following the historic visit by Chadian President Idriss Deby to Jerusalem on Sunday.
