Israel’s South Experiences 4.2 Quake

16 June, 2021   |   4 years ago

A 4.2 magnitude earthquake was felt Tuesday night in the south of Israel.

No casualties or damage were reported.

The epicenter was 68 km northeast of Eilat at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Israel was shaken by a 4.1 magnitude earthquake originating from the Cyprus area in January. In December, the Eilat area was hit by a 3.8 tremor.

Israel is situated on the East African Rift, which runs through the Jordan Valley, on the border with Jordan, an area prone to earthquakes.

The last major earthquake to hit the region occurred in 1927 — a 6.2-magnitude tremor that killed 500 people and injured another 700.

Experts on the issue say that Israel experiences a devastating earthquake every 100 years and have warned that such a disastrous occurrence is just a question of time.

Israeli man Dies of Wounds Incurred during Muslim Riots

7 June, 2021   |   5 years ago

Avi Har-Even, who was severely wounded last month when Muslim rioters threw a Molotov cocktail into the hotel he was staying out in Acco, died of his wounds Sunday night. He was 84 years old.

Har-Even, an Israeli Prize laureate and the former head of Israel’s Space Agency, was staying at the Afandi Hotel when it was attacked by Arab rioters who set the hotel on fire. He suffered from burns and smoke inhalation and was on life support since the attack and until his death.

His son is Rafael’s President and CEO, Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Yoav Har-Even.

Professor Yitzchak Ben Israel, Chairman of the Israel Space Agency, stated that Har Even was “one of the first directors of the Israel Space Agency and laid the foundations for building Israel’s current space capabilities. His contribution is invaluable. This is a great loss to the State of Israel.”

Har-Even was the second Israeli to be killed by Arab rioters. Yigal Yehoshua was lynched by a Muslim mob in Lod and succumbed to his wounds a week after he was attacked.

Muslims conducted anti-Jewish riots throughout Israel for several days, as the IDF was waging war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip in Operation Guardian of the Walls.

The violent anti-Jewish outbreak was apparently a display of solidarity with Hamas.
