Bank of Israel leaves lending rate unchanged

The Bank of Israel left its key lending rate unchanged at 0.1% Monday in BOI Governor Karnit Flug’s final rate call before she steps down next month after a five-year term in office. As you know, Monetary Committee discussions were held yesterday and today at the Bank of Israel to decide on the interest rate. Flug said that conditions were not yet fully in place to “begin the process of withdrawing from the very accommodative policy we have adopted in recent years” and that the bank would “maintain the accommodative policy as long as necessary in order to continue the entrenchment of the inflation environment within the target range. Interest rates have remained at 0.1% since March 2015.

Gaza protest flotilla heads for Israel

A protest flotilla embarked from Gaza and began making it’s way towards the maritime border with Israel. Simultaniously, protestors began amassing on the Gaza’s land border. According to Palestinian media, two protestors were injured by IDF fire.

JNF to invest NIS 100 million in Gaza Belt towns

The Jewish National Fund announced Monday that it will be investing NIS 100 million in rehabilitating towns in the Gaza Belt as well as forest areas and farmlands which have been affected by aerial arson attacks launched from the Gaza Strip in recent months.

Chinese VP To Visit Israel

Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan will make a three-day visit to Israel later this month, the Foreign Ministry said Monday. Wang, a close ally of President Xi Jinping, will attend the fourth joint Israel-China Innovation Conference on October 24. He will be accompanied by a delegation of Chinese businessmen, including Alibaba founder and chairperson Jack Ma.

Two Israelis killed in gas explosion in Moldova
