Biden Congratulates Herzog on his Election to Israel’s Next President
President Joe Biden extended his “warm congratulations” to Isaac Herzog on his election to serve as the 11th President of the State of Israel on Wednesday.
“Throughout his career, President-elect Herzog has demonstrated his unwavering commitment to strengthening Israel’s security, advancing dialogue, and building bridges across the global Jewish community,” Biden’s statement said.
He expressed confidence that “under his presidency, the partnership between Israel and the United States will continue to grow and deepen.”
He also thanked President Reuven Rivlin for “his many years of service to the people of Israel.”
He looks forward to welcoming Rivlin to Washington in the weeks ahead to “honor his dedication to the enduring partnership and the close friendship between our two nations.”
Defense Minister Leaves on Flash visit to Pentagon
Defense Minister Benny Gantz departed on Wednesday for a brief trip to Washington D.C. to meet with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin III and US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan for “strategic dialogue on the emerging nuclear agreement with Iran,” as well as discussion on the maintenance of Israel’s Qualitative Military Edge, and Middle East stability at large.
The officials will further review Israel’s plan for achieving long-term quiet in Gaza and recovering Israel’s MIAs and hostages held by Hamas, while strengthening the regional Alliance of Moderates and the Palestinian Authority.
One of the main focuses of the visit is reportedly the US’ financing of interceptors to the Iron Dome defense system and replenishing the stockpiles after Operation Guardian of the Walls.
Blaze in South Caused by Arson Balloon from Gaza
Gazan terrorists launched arson balloons toward Israel on Monday and set fire to a wheat field in the south, the first such documented attack since Operation Guardian of the Walls.
Firefighters from the Southern District fought the fire in the field in the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council area. Crews worked to extinguish the fire and prevent the fire from spreading until control was achieved.
An Ashkelon Station Fire and Rescue Investigator determined from the findings that the fire was most likely caused by an incendiary balloon.
Israel has yet to respond to the attack.
Minister of Defense Benny Gantz stated after the recent operation that Israel would not tolerate such attacks.
Armed Gazan Terrorist Shot after Crossing Border
An armed terrorist who infiltrated Israel from the Gaza Strip on Sunday night was shot and wounded by Israeli security forces.
The IDF stated that the suspect was identified near the community of Sde Avraham in the Gaza area.
Civilian security officers arrived on the scene and located the suspect. One of them who arrived first questioned the suspect who pulled out a knife and stabbed the security officer. Another officer fired at the terrorist’s lower body and neutralized him.
The injured security officer sustained light injuries to his legs.
IDF forces scanned the area for further infiltrators.
The circumstances of the incident are being investigated by the IDF, police, and Shin Bet security service.
The terrorist is reportedly Imad al-Sufi, a member of the Hamas terror organization.
Police Arrest Terrorist for Throwing Firebomb at Jewish home in Lod
The Police arrested on Saturday one of the terrorists who threw Molotov cocktails at a number of Jewish houses in the city of Lod in the center of the country on Thursday night.
A number of terrorists threw several firebombs at Jewish homes on Thursday night. The families quickly extinguished the fire, and no injuries or damage were caused in the attack.
The arrested terrorist is an Arab resident of the city. Further arrests are expected.
This attack was the latest in a series of attacks perpetrated by Arabs against Jews in the city.
