Report: Chief of Egyptian Intelligence met with Netanyahu

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met with Egyptian Chief of Intelligence Maj. Gen. Abbas Kamel during his visit to Tel Aviv Wednesday, Kan News reported. The purpose of the meeting was reportedly to discuss the developing ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
Economic growth slows in second quarter

Israel’s GDP growth slowed to 2% on an annualized basis in the second quarter 2018, according to an initial estimate published by the Central Bureau of Statistics Thursday. Following figures of 4.8% growth in the first quarter, the slump was mainly down to a sharp decline in car purchases. Excluding car purchases, first quarter growth would have totaled 3.6% in the first quarter and 3% in the second. The CBS estimate for overall growth for the first half of 2018 was 4%.
Energeans says Karish and Tanin gas fields contain 7.5 TCF

Energean Oil and Gas (LSE: ENOG), the Greek company that owns the Karish and Tanin fields off the coast of Israel said Wednesday that a new geological analysis has found that the fields contain 212 BCM or 7.5 TCF of natural gas, an amount equivalent to 75% of the reserves of the Tamar field. The analysis, conducted by Netherland Sewell & Associates, is the first assessment of prospective resources in new Blocks (12, 21, 22, 23 and 31) awarded to Energean as part of a recent offshore licencing round. Mathios Rigas, CEO Energean Oil & Gas, commented: “We are pleased that our independent reserves auditors have identified 7.5 TCF of prospective resource across our Israeli acreage with a very high probability of geological success.”
Shin Bet denies Reza Aslan allegations

The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) has denied allegations made by the American-Iranian author Reza Aslan, who claimed earlier this week that he was detained at a border crossing and threatened by a Shin Bet agent. Aslan said he had been asked why he hates Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and that he was threatened he would not see his children “for a very long time.”
“Mr Aslan, an Iranian born foreign citizen, was questioned by the Shin Bet at the Jordanian border crossing after his behavior raised suspicions,” read Shin Bet’s statement, which continued, “After a short interrogation, Mr. Aslan was released.”
Referring to the accusations made by Aslan about the threats leveled at him as well as his opinion on Prime Minister Netanyahu, Shin Bet said: “The claims of threats being leveled at Mr. Aslan during the interrogation, as well as the claims about any political questions, were looked into thoroughly, and were found to be lacking any basis in reality.“
“Shin Bet’s activity at the border crossing over the past year, has lead to the thwarting of terror plots by foreigners within Israel,” the statement continued, adding that “the activities of the Shin Bet are carried out in accordance with the law and in order to fulfill the organization’s objective of maintaining the security of the state.”
Police foil Jerusalem stabbing attack

Israel Police officers on patrol in Jerusalem foiled a terror attack last week when they arrested a Hebron resident carrying a knife and tear gas, a police spokesperson revealed Wednesday. The 26-year old male was arrested in Jerusalem’s Old City on August 8 after arousing the officers’ suspicions. Police said details of the investigation were under a gag order, but that the man, who entered Israel illegally, had admitted to planning a terrorist attack.
