Russian FM: Demand for Iranian withdrawal from Syria ‘unrealistic’
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Wednesday that Iran is one of the key powers in the Middle East, and added that demands for the Islamic Republic to completely pull out of Syria at the conclusion of the civil war in that country would be “absolutely unrealistic.
“(You cannot expect Iran) to expect it to abandon its interests,” Lavrov said.

Netanyahu is scheduled to meet Russian Prime Minsiter Vladimir Putin next week, ahead of the latter’s summit the following week with US President Donald Trump, where the situation in southern Syria is expected to be on the agenda.
Leah Goldin: Netanyahu should learn from Abbas how to negotiate
Dr. Leah Goldin, the mother of fallen soldier Lt. Hadar Goldin, whose remains have been held by Hamas in Gaza since 2014, spoke out against Prime Minister Netanyahu on Wednesday, asserting that he should take a page from Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in how to negotiate.
Addressing the Committee for the Return of the Soldiers in the Knesset, Goldin said “Over the last week, we have seen that it is actually Abu-Mazen (Abbas) who is setting conditions for the commencement of negotiations to find a solution to the Humanitarian situation in Gaza. However, Netanynahu and the Israeli government are not setting the return of the soldiers as a condition. The UNSC and the European Union already understand this, but the Prime Minister is keeping quiet and doing nothing.”
