30 April, 2020   |   6 years ago

The IDF suspects that an Arab who ran his car into a checkpoint in the Jenin area early Thursday morning did so as a terrorist attack.

An Arab drove speedily into the Reihan Crossing at hit a cement block.

No one was injured in the attack.

The Defense Ministry stated that the suspect, an Arab from the Palestinian Authority (PA) who lives in the village of Bartaa in the Jenin area reached the checkpoint on its Israeli side and stopped about 20 meters before the security post.

A security guard signaled him to approach slowly. At this point, the suspect accelerated and drove quickly toward the security guard, with the suspected objective of injuring him.

The security guards commenced an arrest procedure that included shots in the air.

The suspected terrorist hit a number of concrete bumps and eventually collided with a security guard post and was arrested.

During a preliminary investigation at the site of the attack, the suspect claimed he intended to carry out an attack and “wanted to die.”

This is the third terrorist attack in recent weeks.

On Tuesday, during Israel’s Memorial Day, an Arab terrorist stabbed a woman in her 60s in Kfar Saba and seriously injured her. The terrorist was shot and wounded.

On April 22, an Arab terrorist rammed his car into a Border Police checkpoint near Jerusalem and then stabbed and moderately wounded a policeman. He was shot dead.

That attack occurred just days before the commencing of the Muslim month of Ramadan when Israel often sees a spike in terrorist attacks.

An IDF drone crashed in the Gaza Strip on Monday night, the IDF confirmed.

The IDF noted that the reason for the crash was a technical malfunction and that there was no fear of an intelligence leak or loss of information.

Similar drones have previously crashed in the Gaza Strip and in Lebanon.

The Rochev Shamayim (Skylark) drone is a mini close-range tactical unmanned air vehicle (UAV) system designed and manufactured by Elbit Systems to carry out intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance operations.

The UAV is primarily used for bad weather reconnaissance, data collection, and target marking.

In related news, IDF troops arrested an Arab who crossed the perimeter fence in the northern Gaza Strip into Israeli territory. The suspect was arrested and was found to be armed with a knife.

No one was injured in the incident.

Israel Strikes Targets in Syria, State Media Reports

27 April, 2020   |   6 years ago

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) attacked several targets inside Syria early Monday morning, the country’s state media reported.

Syria’s official SANA news reported that the army’s air defenses “confronted an Israeli aggression” over Damascus and shot down several the missiles.

The Israeli missile attack was launched from Lebanese airspace, the report said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) confirmed the attack and reported that “violent explosions struck the capital Damascus and its surroundings.”

The areas targeted in south and southwest of Damascus host the headquarters and bases of Iranian forces, the Lebanese Hezbollah terror organization and militias loyal to it, SOHR said.

At least four men were killed in the strike and headquarters were destroyed as well, the Observatory added.

Some of the missiles hit their targets, causing material damage. Three civilians were killed, and four others were injured, including a child, SANA claimed.

Israel has remained silent on the report, as in most previous incidents.

Israel reportedly last bombed targets in Syria last Tuesday when it attacked Iranian targets in palmyra, killing at least nine people.

Iran’s military build-up in Syria remains a red line for Israel. The IAF has carried out thousands of attacks to thwart the Iranian entrenchment in the war-torn country.

Iran uses its positions in Syria to transfer weapons and infrastructure to its terror proxy in Lebanon, Hezbollah, while attempting to establish another military front against Israel from the Syrian Golan Heights.

Israeli has repeatedly warned it will not tolerate such a threat on its northern border.

The government approved on Friday an additional ease of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, and on Saturday night shops on the street, beauty salons and hairdressers opened for business.

Shopping malls and entertainment centers remained closed, as well as the education system.

The government decided to place neighborhoods in the cities of Netivot and Beit Shemesh under full curfew following a high number of Coronavirus infections in these areas.

The IDF’s Home Front Command is intensifying its activity in these cities and has deployed forces to assist in the humanitarian efforts and help distribute food.

The entire country will be placed under a curfew on Wednesday when Israel celebrates its Independence Day as the government fears that mass celebrations will cause the spread of the virus.

The Ministry of Health updated Saturday night that the number of Coronavirus victims was recorded at 199.

The number of patients on respirators dropped to 99. Another 127 patients are in serious condition, 98 are in moderate condition and 8,439 are in mild condition.
