Arab Terrorist Stabs, Wounds Israeli in Hebron
An Arab terrorist on Saturday stabbed and moderately wounded an Israeli in Hebron and was apprehended by Israeli forces shortly after the attack.
The attack occurred in the afternoon as two Israelis walked from the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron to Kiryat Araba. The terrorist walked with his friend and passed in front of the two Israelis and then repeatedly stabbed the victim, a resident of Jerusalem.
The terrorist injured the Israeli in his shoulder and the knife broke inside his back.
Another Israeli passing by fought with the terrorist while the wounded victim ran to the soldiers and called for help.
The victim, Moshe Greenblat, 22, was evacuated to Shaare Zedek hospital in Jerusalem while the troops apprehended the terrorist shortly after the attack.
The incident occurred after Israeli police detained an Arab woman at the Damascus Gate at the entrance to the Old City of Jerusalem after she pulled out a knife and flashed it in front of them, apparently the beginning of a stabbing attack.
The woman was said to be in her 50s.
Israel Bombs Hamas Targets in Response to Rocket Attack
Israeli Air Force (IAF) on Wednesday night bomb Hamas terror targets in the Gaza Strip in response to rockets fired by terrorists at Israel earlier in the day.
Gaza-based terrorists launched four rockets at Israeli communities in the south, setting off sirens in several communities.
The IDF stated that two were intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system. The two other projectiles exploded in open space. No one was injured and no damage was caused in the attack.
The targets hit by IAF fighter jets included a weapons manufacturing site and a military compound.
The IDF stated its views the fire at Israeli territory “very severely and will continue to act as necessary against attempts to harm Israeli civilians.”
“The Hamas terror organization is responsible for what is happening in and out of the Gaza Strip and it will bear the consequences for actions against Israeli citizens,” its added.
This is the first rocket attack on Israel from Gaza in 2020. The last attack occurred at the beginning of December when terrorists fired three rockets at the city of Sderot, setting off sirens in the city and in surrounding communities. The Iron Dome defense system intercepted the three rockets.
No one was injured by the rocket and no damage was caused by the attack. Several people were treated for shock.
In response, the IAF carried out a series of attacks on Hamas terror targets in the Gaza Strip.
Terrorists have launched some 40 rockets at Israel since the IDF’s operation in Gaza in November which commenced with the assassination of senior Islamic Jihad commander Bahaa Abu al-Atta and during which some 25 terrorists were killed and over 450 rockets were fired at Israel.
Netanyahu and Pompeo Discuss ‘Recent Regional Developments’
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke on Tuesday with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and discussed “recent regional developments,” Pompeo stated.
He said the conversation was “productive.”
“As always, the US commitment to Israel’s security is unwavering,” he added.
The Prime Minister’s Office uncharacteristically remained silent on the issue.
Their conversation took place after France, Britain and Germany announced they have triggered the Iran nuclear deal dispute mechanism, which could lead to a renewal of further sanctions on Iran following the latter’s recent breaches of the 2015 accord.
Netanyahu has spoken to President Donald Trump and Pompeo several times in recent weeks following the mounting tensions in the Middle East, and specifically after the US’ assassination of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) General Qassem Soleimani and Iran’s retaliatory strikes on US bases in Iraq.
Facing Outrage, Israel Bar Association Puts on Hold Appointment of Terrorist-Defending Attorney
The Israel Bar Association on Monday put on hold its appointment of attorney Lea Tsemel to head its Military Courts Committee following a public outcry from terrorism victims and politicians.
On Sunday, the Bar Association voted to reappoint Tsemel, an Israeli lawyer famous for defending and supporting terrorists, to head its Military Courts Committee, sparking outrage among bereaved families.
Tsemel, who has served as head of the Bar Association’s Military Courts Committee for the past eight years, has gained notoriety for her adamant defense of terrorists with blood on their hands.
Tsemel represented a long list of terrorists, including those involved in the 2000 lynching in Ramallah of two IDF soldiers, Hamas terrorists deported to Lebanon, PLO supporters, as well as Israeli Member of Knesset Basel Ghatas who was convicted of smuggling phones to security prisoners.
Tsemel currently represents Arafat Arfaiya who murdered 19-year-old Ori Ansbacher last year.
Following the appointment, more than 100 bereaved families from the Choosing Life Forum sent a harsh letter to Avi Himmi, head of the Israel Bar Association.
In their letter, the families called the appointment “an unparalleled disgrace” and a “spit in the face of thousands of Israelis who have been murdered over the years,” and urged Himmi to cancel Tsemel’s appointment.
The Choosing Life Forum hailed the move as a “victory of common sense.”
In December, a biopic about Tsemel made the shortlist for an Oscar nomination in the Best Documentary Feature category.
The film “Advocate,” has received harsh criticism in Israel for portraying Tsemel in a positive light.
IDF Intercepts 3 Infiltrators on Gaza Border
IDF forces on Sunday night captured three Arabs who attempted to infiltrate Israel from the Gaza Strip.
The IDF stated that its forces arrested the infiltrators after they crossed the fence in the northern Gaza Strip. The suspects were armed with a knife.
No one was wounded in the incident.
Infiltration attempts on the border with the Strip happen several times a week, usually by Gazan Arabs seeking work in Israel. However, the Israeli forces treat each such incident as a potential terrorist attack.
Last month, IDF soldiers spotted an armed terrorist from the Gaza Strip approaching the security fence with Israel. An IDF aircraft targeted and killed the terrorist. No Israelis were wounded in the incident.
