An Arab terrorist was shot and killed Monday by IDF forces who were operating to arrest a terror suspect in the Balata refugee camp, near Shechem (Nablus) in Samaria.

The IDF stated that during an operation to arrest a wanted suspect in the Balata refugee camp, the troops encountered gunfire from the roofs of buildings. The troops returned fire at the sources of the shooting.

In addition, at the end of the operation, a violent disturbance erupted, which included terrorists throwing blocks and objects at IDF troops from the roofs of buildings.

During the disturbance, the soldiers identified a suspect on the roof of a building holding a large object in both hands and tried to throw it at a troop standing right below the building.

One of the soldiers responded by firing at the terrorist, and a hit was identified.

Arab sources identified the terrorist as a 17-year-old. Photos of him circulating on social media show him brandishing an assault rifle.

There are no Israeli casualties.

The operation was completed and the wanted man, suspected of involvement in terrorist activity, was arrested.

Israeli Education System One of Most Cyber-Targeted in World

23 August, 2021   |   3 years ago

Israel’s educational system faces one of the highest volumes of cyber-attacks on its networks, according to a study by Check Point Research (CPR).

In July 2021, organizations in the education and research sector in India experienced the highest volume of attacks with an average of 5,196 attacks per week per organization, a 22% increase from the first half of 2021.

Italy ranks second, with an average of 5,016 attacks weekly per organization, a 70% increase.

Israel is third in the world, with 4,011 attacks weekly, a 51% increase. Australia is fourth, with 3,934 attacks weekly, a 17% increase.

In more than half of the countries researched, education and research is the most attacked sector, and in 94% of them, it is in the top three most attacked sectors.

CPR explained that in 2020, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic forced organizations to pivot suddenly to a mostly remote workforce. Within a matter of weeks, organizations that had no existing telework programs needed to adapt and update their infrastructure so that their employees, partners and users could work from home.

In particular, organizations in the education and research sector are finding themselves engaged in a cyber security battle like never before. This includes schools, universities and research facilities.

In July 2021, education and research was the sector that experienced the highest volume of attacks, with an average of 1,739 attacks per organization weekly. This was a 29% increase from the first half of 2021.

The only sector which made a higher change from the first half of 2021 was Leisure, at 51%, something to expect during the summer months, CPR noted.

‘Extensive Economic Cooperation’: FM Lapid Meets with Japanese FM in Jerusalem

19 August, 2021   |   3 years ago

Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Yair Lapid met on Wednesday in Jerusalem with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, who is on a tour of the region.

This is the first such trip by a Japanese foreign minister since Motegi’s predecessor, Taro Kono, visited in December 2017.

Motegi visited Egypt, and will also visit Jordan, Turkey, the Palestinian Authority, Iran and Qatar.

The tour’s objective is to consolidate Japan’s ties with the area strategically important for Tokyo as a major oil supplier.

Next year will mark the 70th anniversary of Israel and Japan’s relations, and the “extensive economic cooperation between the countries is reflected in the dramatic increase in the number of Japanese companies in Israel,” the Foreign Ministry stated.

The two foreign ministers discussed the challenges posed by the CCOVID-19 pandemic in their respective countries, economic cooperation and the Japanese government’s important contribution to the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) Jericho Agro-Industrial Park (JAIP) project.

The Japanese International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) development of JAIP in the Jordan Valley is “a key part of Japan’s policy of proactive contributions to Middle East peace.”

Motegi introduced Japan’s efforts to achieve a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)” and stated that this vision will “contribute to the development of the Middle East.”

“Our goal is to continue to strengthen Israel’s relations with Japan. We agreed on mutual support at international organizations and the promotion of commerce to bolster the Israeli economy,” stated Lapid.
