Israel Continues to Feud Over Draft Exemptions for the Ultra-Orthodox

Jerusalem, 27 March, 2024 (TPS-IL) -- Israel’s government is in danger of falling apart, even at a time of war, over the issue of draft deferments for the Ultra-Orthodox who avoid military service by studying in Yeshivas (Tora study academies).

The Ultra-Orthodox parties in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government are insisting on expanding the deferments, while most Israelis wish to see them ended, especially in light of the war in Gaza.
