Israel’s Memorial Day Begins with a Ceremony at the Western Wall

Jerusalem, 12 May, 2024 (TPS) -- Yom Hazikaron, the Israeli Memorial Day for those who died in the defense of Israel , opened Sunday night at 8 P.M. with the sounding of a siren around the nation during the observance of one minute of silence.

A ceremony was held at the Kotel Plaza – the Western Wall – in the old City of Jerusalem to open the 24 hour period of national mourning. It was attended by the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, the IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, other dignitaries and a full military honor guard.
