Its Purim

Holidays By TPS   •   24 March, 2024

Jerusalem, 24 March, 2024 (TPS-IL) -- Jews are celebrating the holiday of Purim today where people take one day a year and get a little bit silly. It’s customary to wear costumes. Today is a school holiday, so kids celebrated in costumes in schools last week.

The nationwide Purim celebrations in Israel are usually comparable to Mardi Gras in Louisiana or Carnival in Brazil. However, in the shadow of the ongoing Iron Swords War against Hamas terrorists in Gaza and the aftermath of the barbaric Hamas attack of October 7, the country expects to see more subdued celebrations this year.

Here, students of Bavli-Yerushalmi Elementary School in Tel Aviv arrive with their parents dressed up in costumes to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Purim.
