Malawi Inaugurates Embassy in Tel Aviv

Jerusalem, 19 April, 2024 (TPS) -- The African nation of Malawi finally opened a consulate in Tel Aviv, 60 years after establishing diplomatic ties with Israel. Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz joined Malawi’s foreign minister for a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Malawian Foreign Minister Nancy Tembo (above right), who came to Israel for the event, said, “This occasion is a symbol of Malawi’s desire to build a deeper relationship with Israel.”

“We will continue to stand with Israel, even when others do not,” added Tembo. “Malawi is a peace-loving state, and it rejects all forms of violence, particularly the cowardly ones, and believes in a nation’s right to self-defense and the protection of its people. Malawians pray for the people of Israel at this time.”

Malawi is a landlocked country in southeastern Africa, famous for Lake Malawi, which dominates the country’s eastern border. The lake is sometimes called the Calendar Lake as it is about 365 miles (587 km) long and 52 miles (84 km) wide.

The country is known as the “Warm Heart of Africa” for the friendliness of its people. Malawi is a beautiful country with a rich culture and history.

Nancy Tembo is a Malawian politician who has been a Member of Parliament since 2004 and serves as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Malawi Government since 2022. She is also a Member of Parliament (MP) representing Lilongwe City South West constituency in the National Assembly of the Republic of Malawi.
